SBU prevents concluding multimillion loss-making contract in the environmental sphere

During CI protective measures of critical infrastructure facilities, the SBU prevented a signing of environmental contract under Government guarantees with an unscrupulous contractor.

SBU operatives established that one of the European countries allocated funds for the implementation of targeted environmental projects in Ukraine. Such investments were necessary for our country during the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Part of money, in particular UAH 103 million (USD 3.9 million), was transferred to the project of one of the communal enterprises of Zaporizzhia region. It provided for the reconstruction of heating systems to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

During the examination, SBU operatives established that the winner of tender was a company that is subject to sanctions under the law, in particular, for cooperation with the so-called L/DNR. Managers of the company concealed this fact during the submission of tender documents.

It is established that company’s owners planned to transfer part of the money, allocated from the budget, to affiliated structures in Russia and the temporarily occupied territories.

Due to SBU intervention, tender decision was cancelled. State did not suffer multimillion losses.
