Russian special services continue attempts to recruit our citizens for intelligence to the damage of Ukrainian state security
Russia-controlled “Ministries of state security” of quasi-republics continue its criminal activity involving Ukrainian citizens to intelligence to the detriment of Ukrainian state security. SBU CI documents the attempts to recruit Ukrainians by so-called DNR special services using violence and threats.
CI officers established that a resident of Lviv region was groundlessly detained by “DNR MGB” employees during his staying on the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region. Thereafter, the man was conveyed to a special prison, located in one of Donetsk hotels. During several days, he suffered psychological violence and tortures.
At the same time, they demanded to provide information about servicemen he knew and location of the military units in Lviv region.
“MGB” employees also coerced him to take part in a special anti-Ukrainian propaganda prepared in advance by Russian media.
After that, the man was forced to agree for cooperation with the enemy special service under the threat of physical violence against him and his family, and was tasked with collecting and transmitting intelligence about Ukrainian servicemen who took part in hostilities in the east of our country.
However, he did not perform the criminal orders and voluntarily informed SBU about his illegal detention and attempts of recruiting.
The SBU reminds, according to the provisions of Part. 2, Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, citizens of Ukraine are released from criminal liability if they did not commit any acts requested by a foreign state, foreign organization or their representatives and voluntarily reported on links with them and the received task.
