Odesa: SBU exposes cache with military weapons near power facilities

The Security Service of Ukraine found a large cache with military weapons, located near power facilities in Odesa.

Allegedly, a serviceman of the Armed Forces stole from the military unit a significant amount of explosives and ammunition for further sale.

The SBU documented the sale of two F-1 and RGD-5 grenades by a serviceman and detained him under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The law enforcement officers seized 4.9 kilos of trotyl, 17 RGD-5 grenades, eleven F-1 grenades and two mines from the cache that the suspect had set up near the protected zone of the energy facility. The seized weapons were sent for examination.

According to experts, in the case of uncontrolled detonation of the weapons, there was a threat of blackout in several districts of the region.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the form of detention is being chosen.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case and bring to justice other persons possibly involved in illegal activities.

The operation was carried out jointly with the National Police investigators under the supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Odesa garrison of the Southern region.
