SBU exposes separatists agitating for fake “Zaporizzhia People’s Republic”
In Zaporizzhia, the Security Service of Ukraine blocked the activities of a separatist group who, in the interests of hostile special services, shook up the situation in the region and promoted the ideas of "Russkaya Vesna."
Allegedly, the suspects belonged to one of the pro-Russian radical movements, whose followers advocate the separation of the south-eastern regions from Ukraine to create terrorist organizations similar to "L/DNR".
After an unsuccessful attempt to seize power in Zaporizzhia in the spring of 2014, the separatists left for temporarily occupied by pro-Russian forces Luhansk. Initially, they helped the militants set up illegal checkpoints and barricades around the seized administrative buildings, and later began cooperating with representatives of the so-called "L/DNR security wing."
Implementing the tasks of their curators, the group members had to return to Zaporizzhia and wait for further instructions. The terrorists planned to use the separatist group to carry out subversive activities and incite public outrage in the peaceful territory of Ukraine. To carry out the task on the eve of public holidays, the group members distributed agitprop in Zaporizzhia calling for the overthrow of the constitutional order, forced federalization and the creation of a fake "Zaporizzhia People's Republic".
During the searches of the suspects’ residences, the law enforcement officers seized computer equipment, mobile phones, medals and badges of Russia and the so-called "L/DNR", as well as ammunition, separatist and communist symbols.
The investigation is ongoing upon the fact of encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Part 2 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and dissemination of communist symbols and propaganda of the communist regime (Part 1 of Art. 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Zaporizzhia region.
