SBU investigates usage of banned Russian explosive device in JFO area
The Security Service of Ukraine is investigating the fact of usage of NVU-P “Hunting” non-contact explosive device by illegal armed actors. The device is produced in Russia and is banned by Ottava Treaty in 1997.
Allegedly, the explosive was found by the servicemen of a JFO unit near Novotoshkivka village in Popasna district. “Hunting” is a set of five anti-personnel mines, which are activated during the registration of human movement through the seismic sensors installed in the area. The radius of defeat from the centre of installation of the control unit makes 30 meters.
This device was set by the illegal armed actors near the residential hub close to the demarcation line and posed a potential threat to locals.
So far, the mines that made up the set have been destroyed by the servicemen of the JFO engineering and sapper unit.
The SBU confiscated the device for its attachment as a material evidence in the opened criminal proceedings on the violation of laws and customs of war.
The investigative actions to identify the criminals are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the JFO servicemen and the National Police.
In the first half of this year, the SBU officers found more than 30 firearms, a 550 mines, grenades and grenade launchers, 100 kilograms of explosives and almost 1500 rounds of ammunition.
