Nine Ukrainians come back home from Syrian refugee camps (video)

A plane with nine Ukrainians from camps for civilians in Syria arrived in city of Kyiv.

The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov, the Minister of Defense Andrii Taran, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Roman Mashovets and other officials met two adults and seven children at the Boryspil International Airport.

The complex operation to return Ukrainian citizens from Syrian refugee camps actually completed. Their relatives appealed to the Ukrainian authorities for evacuation.

Thus, a special working group, including SBU officers, was created in June 2019. The group had to organize the evacuation of Ukrainian citizens and their children. SBU CI officers were involved in the return plan development.

Moreover, the specialists checked the citizens detained in Syria for alleged ties with ISIS members.

After a number of examinations, the SBU CI found no evidence of Ukrainian citizens involvement in terrorist activities.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved and commissioned the plan to evacuate Ukrainians and their children.

Syria and Iraq imposed broad restrictions and cancelled flights due to COVID-19. As a result, the special operation was delayed significantly.

The evacuation procedure was made possible only after stabilization of the epidemiological situation in these countries.
