SSU conclusively confirms identity of Hero murdered after saying ‘Glory to Ukraine!’

Investigators of the SSU have established that the Ukrainian serviceman shot dead after saying ‘Glory to Ukraine!’ was a sniper of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate Territorial Defence brigade of Chernihiv region, Oleksandr Ihorovych Matsiyevskyi.

The SSU confirms this after a set of investigative actions, including interviewing the family and comrades-in-arms of the deceased, analysing photo and video materials.

The SSU also relies on the conclusion of a forensic portrait examination, which ascertained that the soldier in the video was Oleksandr Matsiyevskyi.

‘This is a real Hero who, even looking into the face of death, demonstrated to the whole world what Ukrainian character and invincibility are. Such defenders are fighting for our land today, which means that the enemy will definitely be defeated. Because Ukraine’s Great Victory is made up of heroic deeds of people like Oleksandr Matsievskyi. Glory to the Hero! Glory to Heroes! Glory to Ukraine!’ the SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk noted.

The SSU Head added that the Service is working to identify the occupiers who committed this bloody crime.

‘We will do everything to ensure that these inhumans are punished,’ Vasyl Maliuk emphasized.

Oleksandr Matsievskyi was called up for military service in March 2022. In late December, he was reported missing near the village of Krasna Hora, Donetsk region.

As the SSU identified, Oleksandr Matsievskyi was shot dead on December 30, 2022. His body was returned home in February 2023.

The SSU is acting to identify russian military servicemen who committed this crime. The pre-trial investigation is conducted under Article 438 of the CCU (violation of laws and customs of war), with the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
