SBU systematically counteracts corruption in Kyiv region
In October, in the field of counteracting internal threats to national security, the officers of the SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv city and Kyiv region documented five acts of corruption, seven suspects received notices of suspicion. The total amount of bribe is UAH 1,2 million (USD 41,900).
The SBU exposed an official of the State Ecological Inspection in the Kyiv region on a bribe of USD 20,000. The official extorted money for not entering data on detected violations of eco-norms into the acts of unscheduled inspections of private entrepreneurs.
The SBU officers detained the deputy head of the Investigative Department of the Kyiv-Sviatoshynskyi district department of the National Police on a bribe of UAH 500,000 (USD 17,400). The police major demanded money from a local resident for not bringing his nephew to criminal responsibility, promising to keep the person involved in the case as a witness.
The SBU exposed a corrupt investigator of a branch of the Irpin Police department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv region. The officer jointly with an accomplice, an operative of the criminal investigation office, demanded a bribe of USD 4,000 for a "milder" indictment for theft, that would not provide for a term of imprisonment.
The SBU officers documented a land surveyor of a village council of Boryspil district, who is also a candidate for local council elections, on extorting a bribe from a local resident for issuing a decision on granting permission to locate a grocery store in the village.
The senior state executor of a district department of the State Executive Service of the Central Interregional Department of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine will also be brought to justice. The official demanded UAH 28,000 (USD 970) for signing documents on the transfer of the debtor's movable property in favor of the claimant in order to repay the debt.
