SBU comments on searches of Revolution of Dignity Museum

SBU emphasizes that today’s searches of the premises of the National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred and Revolution of Dignity Museum are being conducted by the Main Department of the National Police in Kyiv city under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office. SBU officers have been also involved in legal support of the operation under the Criminal Procedure Code.

Investigators suspect museum officials of embezzlement of public funds allocated for restoration works.

The pretrial investigation upon the fact of abuse of office is still ongoing.

It has been recorded that the museum management concluded UAH 150 million (USD 5,3 million) treaties on reconstruction and improvement of the memorial facilities. Contractors were charged UAH 111 million (USD 3,9 million) of advance payment.

However, law enforcement officers established that the given works were not carried out in due time. But instead, the contractors misappropriated most of the allocated public funds.
