SSU cyber units disrupt supplies of components for batch of russian Shahed drones and cruise missiles – Illia Vitiuk
The SSU cyber units are working systemically and have already achieved results in blocking supply of components for russian weapons, e.g. Shaheds, and microchips for cruise missiles.
Illia Vitiuk, Head of the SSU Cyber Security Department, spoke about this during the telethon.
‘We are blocking supply chains of components for russian weapons. One example is blocking the supply of servo motors for the production of 1,600 Shaheds and 4,000 microchips for cruise missiles,’ SSU cyber chief informed.
Illia Vitiuk also said that the Service’s cyber units are operating at the frontline to destroy enemy electronic warfare and reconnaissance systems and to intercept enemy drones that adjust russian missile and artillery strikes on the Defence Forces.
According to the Head of the SSU Cyber Department, the intelligence collected by this unit helps to prevent human casualties. So does repelling cyberattacks.
‘Cyber warfare is not something abstract and virtual. Each repelled attack is a prevented attempt to harm our state and people. In one case, russian intelligence services hacked into a military serviceman’s messenger apps and found out the place and time of a planned assembly. This resulted in the enemy hitting the site and dozens of casualties,’ explained Illia Vitiuk.
During 2 years of the full-scale war, the SSU has repelled almost 10,000 cyberattacks, most of which – at the initial stage. These attacks had different purposes: intelligence-gathering, destruction, psychological influence or a combination of these.
Illia Vitiuk expects that the russian intelligence will increase their cyber offensive potential. However, the SSU also conducts its special operations in the cyber domain and destroys military targets well behind enemy lines.
