SBU CI officers revealed a source of Krypton-85 radioactive radiation in Zhytomyr region. Ionizing materials were found in the facilities of a non-operating local enterprise.

In addition, a relevant license of the enterprise expired, and radioactive elements were stored illegally.

Investigative actions resulted in seizure of the equipment for its further examination and disposal by experts of the Ukrainian State Corporation Radon.

The pre-trial investigation of illegal handling of radioactive materials is ongoing.

The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the supervision of the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office involving experts of the State Emergency Service in Zhytomyr region and the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
