SBU CI initiates 119 criminal proceedings to protect state’s military and economic potential
During 2020, SBU CI initiated 119 criminal proceedings in the field of military economic and defense potential of Ukraine. Among them, 68 proceedings concern violations of the procedure international transfers of goods subject to state export control.
For example, CI prevented the illegal export of military goods worth UAH 1,48 billion (USD 53 million) and exposed abuses of office in the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard and a number of state-owned enterprises. This abuses caused losses to the state budget for almost UAH 1,1 billion (USD 39 million).
The smuggled military property seized by CI has been almost transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It’s cost is about UAH 1 billion (USD 35,5 million).
In total, during 2020, according to SBU CI, 28 offenders were convicted of crimes in the field of military-defense potential.
At the same time, the total amount of fines for violation of the legislation in the field of state export control is UAH 141 million (USD 5 million).
Also, CI prevented 65 foreign economic contracts that could harm the interests of the state.
