SBU CI officers exposed command of a military unit of Poltava region on embezzlement during government procurement of military property.

Allegedly, the officers organized a scheme for obtaining illegal benefit via the procurement of protective elements of military uniform at unreasonably high prices. In order to implement the scheme and to guarantee a certain company would win the contract bid, they created artificial conditions.

The offenders appropriated 30-percent margin from the amount stated in the contract with the product supplier.

During searches of the military unit base, the law enforcement officers found the documents with evidence of illegal activity. Also, control samples of purchased goods were seized for further testing of compliance with technical requirements.

According to experts, the scheme caused damage to the state in the amount of more than UAH 1 million (USD 35,000).

The issue of serving the offenders a notice of suspicion is being resolved.

The investigation is ongoing upon the fact of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Military Prosecutor's Office of Poltava Garrison of the Central region and the Main Directorate of the National Police in Poltava region.
