SBU CI blocks supply of low-quality ammunition to Ukrainian Army

In Sumy Region, the SBU CI exposed and blocked the scheme of supplying ammunition that did not comply with technical requirements.

Allegedly, a Kyiv company signed a state contract with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for the manufacture and supply of artillery shells.

The SBU operatives documented that the company received more than UAH 50 m. (USD 1,75 m.) within the framework of the state defense order. The shells turned out to be unusable.

Reportedly, the ammunition was manufactured locally in unsuitable premises. According to the experts, the artisanal ammunition does not comply with the technical requirements and cannot be adopted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result, these shells have been withdrawn from possible use.

During the searches of the offenders’ offices and apartments, the law enforcement officers seized technical, financial and economic documents, computer equipment and other evidence of illegal activity.

In order to identify all those involved in the scheme, the investigation is ongoing upon the fact of high treason.

The SBU is checking whether the enterprises’ management had the intention to cause damage to the state's defense capabilities.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor's Office.
