SBU CI exposes criminal gang on fake appointment of candidates to senior government positions
SBU CI jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation uncovered a criminal group specializing in illegal appointment to the senior positions.
Law enforcement officers documented and stopped the illegal activities of the organized group. Allegedly, the offenders tried to get big sum of money out of citizens under the pretext of appointing them to senior government positions, in particular, in the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (Part 4 Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
SBU officers established that the criminal group, which includes a former assistant of one of Ukrainian MPs, has been operating in the city of Kyiv.
For USD 200,000, he offered to “arrange” the appointment of a candidate to the position of the director of the Department of Justice and Law Enforcement activities of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
On January 18, 2021, law enforcement officers detained the offender under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on receiving the first part of the bribe amounting to USD 100,000.
Investigation is ongoing. The issue of choosing a type of detention is being settled.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
