SBU CI documents another attempt to recruit Ukrainian officials by so-called “MGB LNR” (video)
The SBU CI continues documenting attempts to recruit the Ukrainians by the so-called “MGB LNR”. The enemy has a particular interest in the representatives of public authorities and administration, as well as the law enforcement officers who have access to state secrets.
The SBU officers established that the terrorists controlled by the Russian special services tried to persuade an employee of the Luhansk Regional State Administration to high treason.
The militants detained a woman at the Stanytsia Luhanska check-point while visiting relatives. To incline to confidential cooperation, they used usual methods of persuasion: threats to relatives’ life, health and blackmail. The “MGB” representatives had interest in information about the administration’s work, personal data of management and employees, passwords for access to e-mail, etc. They insisted that the official not only systematically provide official information to them, but also involved her husband, an employee of the National Police, in cooperation with them.
Under pressure, the woman signed a confidential cooperation agreement. She was additionally instructed about channels of covert communication.
After arriving in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, the administration’s employee started to receive e-mails with threats and demands to get in touch.
The SBU CI officers established that the woman did not plan to take any action to the detriment of state security. She provided detailed information about the circumstances of her recruitment and assigned tasks. After a thorough inspection, she was released from criminal responsibility.
The SBU reminds that under Art.111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, citizens of Ukraine who did not commit any criminal activity and voluntarily informed the authorities about the connection with the enemy special service, are released from criminal responsibility. The High Treason is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
