Kharkiv region: SSU CI detains member of international terrorist organization
In Kharkiv, the SSU CI detained a foreigner wanted by Interpol. The individual is suspected of committing terrorism-related crimes.
The SSU operatives established that a 29-year-old citizen of a Central Asian state, a member of the terrorist organizations ‘Turkestan Islamic Party’ and ‘Islamic State of Iraq’, illegally arrived in Ukraine in 2021.
His main purpose of moving to our country was to try to evade criminal responsibility. According to the investigation, in 2017 this man was engaged in recruiting and sending militants for the armed conflicts in Syria and Iraq.
In his home country, the militant is accused of participating in a criminal organization, for which he may be facing up to 12 years of imprisonment.
The decision on extradition arrest is pending. The investigators are verifying his involvement in international terrorist groups with cells possibly operating in Ukraine.
The SSU carried out the operation together with the State Migration Service and the National Police.
