The SBU detained a former prosecutor of Cherkasy Local Prosecutor's Office while receiving illegal benefits.

The operatives documented the official extorting USD 1,500 from a local businessman. For this sum of money the prosecutor “guaranteed” the man to return his car, which was taken to the impound lot due to the alleged property rights violations.

In November 2015 the law enforcement detained the perpetrator near his workplace while receiving the full amount of the bribe.

Prydniprovskyi District Court of Cherkasy City found him guilty of fraud and taking a bribe and appointed to him 5 years of imprisonment with confiscation of a part of his property and deprivation of the right to hold positions in public authorities for 2 years.

Today the appeal court has upheld the decision of the first instance court.

The court verdict has come into force.
