Cherkasy region: SBU uncovers large-scale production of amphetamine

In Cherkasy region, the SBU stopped illegal activities of a drug gang, which manufactured and distributed psychotropics.

Allegedly, five local residents set up an underground drug lab to produce psychotropic substances in the residence of a former police officer, who was the part of the criminal group. The offenders ordered precusors in the Internet. Afterwards, they sold the drugs through the drug dealers’ network.

Allegedly, the criminal group manufactured more than 10 kg of amphetamine for over UAH 2.5 million (USD 89,286) per month at shadow prices. The group has been involved in unlawful activities since the beginning of 2020.

As a result, SBU officers detained three active group members while preparing to sell another batch of drugs.

During searches of the suspects’ residences, the law enforcement also seized over 1 kg of amphetamine, 5 kg of precursors, lab equipment and other evidence of the crime.

The criminal proceedings were initiated upon the fact illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropics or their analogues. The investigation is ongoing. The issue of serving the detainees a suspicion notices and bringing them to justice is being resolved.

The operation was carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Cherkasy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
