Cherkasy region: SBU exposes member of organized criminal group attempting to sell anti-tank grenades and explosives

In Cherkasy region, SBU operatives prevented the illegal sale of munition to criminals. Among the seized weapons is a rocket-propelled infantry flamethrower “Dzhmil”, made in Russia.

Allegedly, the organizer, being in pre-trial detention center on suspicion of committing a serious crime, tried to sell weapons and ammunition.
He engaged his mediator at large in illegal activities.

The offenders stored weapons in a hiding place, arranged in the abandoned warehouse in Smilyanskyi district. They searched for clients via their own connections with criminals.

Law enforcement detained the mediator on attempt to sale:

- infantry flamethrower RPV-A "Dzhmil",

- four anti-tank grenades RPG-22 and RPG-26,

- two kilograms of explosives,

- three grenade launcher rounds,

- three grenades,

- 2,000 rounds of various calibers.

Currently, the seized weaponry is sent for examination.

The issue of serving a suspicion notice to the offender is being resolved within the criminal proceeding initiated for smuggling; illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives.

An investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the offense and bring to justice other people involved in illegal activities.

Information on the illegal supplies of weapons and ammunition from the JFO area is being verified.
