Dnipropetrovsk region: SBU exposes recycling company on violation of environmental regulations

In Dnipropetrovsk region, the SBU exposed outrage of environmental regulations by the company during the disposal of pollutants.

Allegedly, the local pipe plant, which is one of the most powerful regional enterprises, has signed a UAH 2.5 million (USD 87,700) contract with a licensed Kharkiv company for removal and disposal of hazardous waste. It was established that the recycler did not fulfill the terms of the contract. Instead, the perpetrators organized an illegal scheme involving a resident of Marhanets city. For money, the man agreed to store toxic substances on a leased land plot of almost 15 hectares, located next to the garages on the outskirts of the city.

Trucks with pollutants plied there twice a week. It led to the formation of a landfill with hazardous garbage of 1-3nd category. This situation could cause a leak of dangerous substances to Kakhovka Reservoir through groundwater.

The law enforcement detained the perpetrators’ vehicle while unloading another batch of pollutants.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated for pollution and damage of lands committed by prior conspiracy.

The investigation is ongoing. All the circumstances of the case are being established. The information on other enterprises involved in the illegal storage of toxic waste in Tomakivskyi district is being checked.

The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office.
