Donetsk region: SBU detains offenders offering bribe to Ukrainian serviceman
In Donetsk region, the SBU detained two offenders on offering a bribe to a commander of military unit. He had to provide illegal transportation of excisable goods across the contact line.
Allegedly, two residents of Avdiivka city organized the illegal transportation of tobacco products from the temporarily uncontrolled territory. They transported goods in their own vehicles avoiding checkpoints.
During another attempt to transport cigarettes, the offenders tried to give UAH 15,000 (USD 600) to the Ukrainian officer. For this amount, they wanted to “persuade” the major not to interfere with their illegal business.
After receiving the “offer”, the serviceman immediately contacted the SBU.
Law enforcement detained the offenders near Avdiivka city on giving the full amount of the bribe.
The issue of serving the perpetrators a notice of suspicion and choosing a type of detention is currently being settled. The investigation is ongoing for giving a bribe.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Main National Police Directorate in the Donetsk region under the procedural supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Donetsk garrison.
