Kharkiv region: SBU prevents low-quality construction and repair of roads
In Kharkiv region, the SBU prevented low-quality construction and repair of critical infrastructure facilities of the road industry.
The SBU officers established that during the third quarter of 2020, a Kharkiv state-owned enterprise announced a number of tenders for the purchase of building materials to repair and construct the roads. A management of a company offered prices that were much lower than the market ones. This allowed the businessmen to win the tender and conclude contracts for almost UAH 6.3 m. (USD 222,600).
During a documentation review, the SBU officers found that the winning company does not have its own material and technical resources, as well as qualified staff. The materials that the businessmen planned to buy from subcontractors do not meet the quality certificates.
This situation could lead to the supply of low-quality building materials and bad performance of work. This threatened the premature destruction of the road surface, increased road traffic accidents and could cause multimillion losses to the state.
Due to the SBU information, the management of the state-owned enterprise unilaterally terminated the concluded contracts.
The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Kharkiv region under the coordination of the SBU Main Directorate for Counter-Intelligence Protection of the State’s economic interests.
