Kherson region: SBU suppresses offenders coordinated by Russian crime bosses
In Kherson region, the SBU suppressed activity of an organized criminal group. Coordinated by Russian crime bosses, its members terrorized and intimidated the local population.
Within initiated criminal proceedings, SBU officers established that the offenders affected public life in the region. They made money selling drugs, in particular to penal colonies. The criminals organized an average of UAH 300,000 (USD 10,700) a month common cash fund for prisoners. The criminal group was headed by a regional criminal leader.
The law enforcement conducted searches of group members, including its leader. As a result, evidence of illegal activity was seized.
Two offenders were exposed while transferring drugs to a penal colony. The issue of serving the offenders suspicion notices is being resolved.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out jointly with the National Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office and with the assistance of the Kherson Pre-trial Detention Center.
