Kyiv region: SBU exposes corrupt deputy chief of police department
In Kyiv region, the SBU exposed a corrupt deputy chief of the investigative unit of Kyiv-Sviatoshynskyi district police department.
Allegedly, the official extorted UAH 500,000 (USD 18,000) from a local resident for failing to prosecute his nephew, a defendant in a large-scale fraud case. Instead, the perpetrator promised not to serve him a notice of suspicion and to make him a witness. After all, the offender agreed to reduce the amount of the bribe to UAH 400,000 (USD 15,000).
He was detained according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in his office on receiving the whole sum of the bribe.
During a search at the perpetrator's office, law enforcement officers found another USD 6,000, allegedly obtained illegally.
The investigation is ongoing upon the fact of taking a bribe.
The issue of serving the offender a notice of suspicion is being settled.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Kyiv city, the Department of Internal Security of the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
