Kyiv region: SBU exposes corrupt head of amalgamated territorial community and his deputy

The SBU exposed the leadership of one of the largest amalgamated territorial communities of Kyiv region on bribery.

During the pre-trial investigation, SBU officers established that the head and his deputy extorted money from developers. Law enforcement documented that for USD 25,000 and UAH 700,000 (USD 25,000), the officials guaranteed the businessmen winning in the land auction. For this sum, officials promised to sign a lease agreement for a land plot (total area is 12 hectares) for the construction of apartment buildings.

The offenders also helped to reduce the estimated value of the land by over 10 times. Such actions could lead to large-scale losses of the state budgets at various levels.

Law enforcement officers documented taking of an "advance" by the officials and detained them in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code after receiving the main part of the bribe.

Within the initiated criminal proceedings, the SBU is conducting searches of officials' offices and residences. The issue of serving suspicion notices of taking a bribe is being resolved.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Department of Strategic Investigations in Kyiv Region, investigators of the Main National Police Department in Kyiv Region under the supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor's Office.
