Luhansk region: “LNR” militant is sentenced to 5,5 years of imprisonment

Due to SBU information, a member of the “LNR” terrorist organization was sentenced. Law enforcement officers detained the militant in August 2020 on attempt to cross the contact line for intelligence purposes.

SBU investigators established that, since Russian aggression started in June 2014, the resident of Luhansk joined IAF and was enlisted in Zoria terrorist battalion as intelligence officer. He collected intelligence at the militants’ observation posts. Later, he get an appointment in “15th Battalion of the Territorial Defense of the 2nd LNR Army Corps People's Militia” in Pervomaisk city. SBU officers established that the mercenary maintained armed resistance against the ATO/JFO forces near the contact line. He also took part in hostilities near Zolote village.

Rubizhne City Court found the militant guilty of creation of unlawful paramilitary or armed formations, and trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine. The offender was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment.

The defense has the right to appeal the judgement within a month from the date of its passing.

The investigation was ongoing under the procedural supervision of the Luhansk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
