Luhansk region: SBU exposes top-officials on extortion of money from businessman during election campaign

The SBU exposed a deputy mayor of a city in Luhansk region, who was involved in receiving unlawful benefit during the tender procedure.

The SBU officers established that the official extorted money from the commercial director of a private enterprise specialized in repairing the city's infrastructure. In return, the suspect promised the businessman his assistance in winning the tender and quick payment for services under two other contracts.

Allegedly, the official "became active" before the upcoming local elections to replenish the so-called "pre-election fund".

The law enforcement officers detained the deputy mayor in his office on taking the whole sum of the bribe under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings, the investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and to identify other persons involved.
