Luhansk region: SBU CI helps to convict official for high treason

SBU CI materials helped the Belovodsk District Court of Luhansk region to convict head of a structural unit of the regional state institution for high treason.

SBU CI officers established that the official was recruited by the Russian special services during her stay in the separate districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions due to personal issues. Militants detained the traitor at the Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint and gave her in charge of a Russian FSB officer. He forced the official to agree on secret cooperation with Russian special service via blackmail and psychological pressure.

The Russian special agent instructed the official to collect information about the personnel and activities of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and authorities. She had to provide the information received to the curator during the next crossing of the contact line.

After returning to the territory controlled by Ukraine, the SBU CI exposed the official, attempting to carry out the Russian special service mission. The suspect voluntarily reported all the circumstances of the recruitment.

The court found the official guilty of preparing for high treason. Taking to account the fact that the offender facilitated the investigation and provided relevant information for further documentation of the Russian FSB subversive activities against Ukraine, the court released her from criminal liability.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Luhansk Region Prosecutor's Office.

We urge the Ukrainian citizens to refrain from visiting the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk region. Moreover, we note that the enemy is particularly interested in information about the representatives of public authorities and administration, as well as law enforcement officers with access to state secrets.

It should be recalled that according to Part 1 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the person shall be punishable for high treason by 15-year imprisonment. However, in accordance with Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a citizen of Ukraine shall be discharged from criminal liability where, he has not committed any actions requested by a foreign state, a foreign organization or their representatives and voluntarily reported his ties with them and the task received to public authorities.
