Odesa region: SSU detains officials selling sailor’s certificates for draft evaders to travel abroad (video)

In Odesa oblast, the SSU has shut down another mobilization evasion scheme.

The SSU detained its two organizers: an employee of Izmail Sea Port and an official of the Danube Qualification Commission of the State Service of Maritime and Inland Water Transport and Shipping.

For money, the officials offered draft evaders to leave Ukraine as navigators of merchant vessels.

The corrupt officials ‘guaranteed’ that their ‘clients’ would pass the exam to obtain relevant qualifications.

The ‘services’ cost from USD 700 to USD 1,200, depending on the men’s primary skills in maritime navigation and their financial capabilities.

In this way, the corrupt officials ‘earned’ almost UAH 2 mln (USD 53,000).

The SSU apprehended both suspects ‘red-handed’ when they received a bribe.

Based on the evidence, the detained individuals have been notified of suspicion under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).

The suspects are in custody, facing up to 10 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
