The employees of the SBU Office in Poltava region documented multimillion misappropriation of budget funds during medical equipment procurement.

The SBU established that the Department of Health of Poltava Regional State Administration concluded an agreement with a company. Within the terms of the agreement, the company was to supply medical equipment, in particular, for diagnosing heart diseases.

The investigation showed that the businessman illegally added margin to the equipment’s price, contradicting the government control over certain prices, which was in effect at that time. The officials of the Department of Health were not obliged to check whether the company’s actions complied with the current legislation.

According to the experts, the perpetrator illegally received at least UAH 3,5 m. (USD 125,000) from the state budget.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate of Counter-Intelligence Protection of the State's Economy jointly with the National Police investigators, under the supervision of Kyiv Local Prosecutor’s Office No.9.

According to the Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved through legal procedure and established by a court verdict of guilty.
