Vinnytsia region: SBU exposes ex-head of state enterprise on illegal mining

In Vinnytsia region, SBU documented illegal extraction of state minerals by the CEO of a state mining company.

Allegedly, the official illegally sold limestone from the region’s deposit without any licences. Thus, he used special cargo vehicles, including those rented from local entrepreneurs. After limestone processing, the suspect sold the finished products to commercial entities across the country.

It was established that the miners illegally extracted more than 58,000 m3 of mineral resources. Experts estimated the state suffered losses of almost UAH 150 million (USD 5,357,143).

As a result, the former director of the SE was suspected of violation of rules related to the protection of minerals. The issue of choosing a type of detention is being decided.

Investigative actions within the criminal proceedings are underway to bring to justice other persons involved.

Measures to expose the illegal scheme were carried out jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Khmelnytskyi city under the procedural supervision of Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
