SBU exposed and blocked the large-scale embezzlement of forest resources in Mokryansk and Velykobereznyanske state forestry enterprises.

Allegedly, the officials of Mokryansk forestry allowed an unauthorized logging of valuable trees at the state-owned enterprise.

Environmental experts estimated that the offenders’ illegal activities caused losses to the state's environmental fund amounting to over UAH 3,000,000 (USD 107,143). Within the criminal proceedings, three officials of the state forestry, including the acting director, received a suspicion notice of neglect of official duty.

The employees of Velykobereznyanske state forestry facilitated the illegal logging of timber in the territories of the forest fund entrusted to them. Further, they planned to sale the timber to commercial structures.

During an on-site inspection, SBU officers jointly with ecologists found that systematical illegal logging caused almost UAH 500,000 (USD 17,858) damage to the state.

Investigative actions are underway to bring all involved persons to justice.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv city, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office of Zakarpattia region.
