Transcarpathia region: SBU detains head of locomotive depot on giving bribe to SBU officer

The SBU Internal Security Directorate exposed one of the heads of Mukachevo locomotive depot, which is a part of Ukrzaliznytsia, on an attempt to give a bribe to SBU officer.

The law enforcement officers received information that the official looks for an employee in the regional SBU Office who will agree to “shield” his illegal business for financial gain. If agreed, he offered USD 5,000 monthly. The SBU officers established that the offender smuggles amber and tobacco products, as well as dumps fuel from locomotives. Within the initiated criminal proceeding, the SBU appointed an officer who “agreed” to take money.

The law enforcement officers detained the head of the depot at a petrol station in Mukachevo on giving of an advance (USD 2,000).

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainee for giving a bribe is being resolved. The type of detention is being chosen. The SBU is going to file a motion to conduct searches in offender’s residence and office.

The operation was conducted jointly with investigators of the Main National Police Department in Transkarpathia region under the procedural supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Uzhhorod garrison and with the assistance of the SBU Office in Transcarpathia region.
