Zaporizzhia region: SBU exposes separatists who called for USSR revival (video)

In Zaporizzhia region, the SBU stopped activity of the pro-Russian separatist group. On demand of Russian curators, the offenders promoted the idea of USSR revival and planned to create fake Soviet authorities.

Allegedly, the offenders were members of a pro-Russian radical movement. The movement advocates for the “revival of the renewed republics of the USSR.”

According to the plan of their curators, the offenders were to agitate the population for a return to the “legal field of the USSR.” Then they planned to form the Soviet authorities via the procedure of so-called “democracy”.

The SBU operatives and investigators established that the criminals want to hold fake “All-Union Elections” in order to create alternative governing bodies at all levels. The ultimate goal of the movement's participants is to restore the USSR via “open expression of the will of the people.” The official authorities of Ukraine were to resign in favor of the newly elected Soviet government.

The perpetrators had to appeal to the authorities with official statements about the alleged desire of citizens to restore the Ukrainian SSR. The SBU officers documented that the organizer of the Ukrainian branch of the movement had made an official statement to the state authorities to open a polling station in a village of Zaporizzhia Region to conduct a fake expression of will. The perpetrator also demanded funding from the local budget and the local officials had to facilitate the “elections.”

During a search of the offender’s residence, the law enforcement officers seized computer equipment, agitation materials and documents confirming illegal activity.

The investigation is ongoing upon the fact of actions aimed at forcible change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power.

The operation was conducted under supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
