In Zhytomyr region the SBU cyber specialists exposed an official of the Main Department of the State Tax Service on illegal sale of classified information.

Allegedly, the Chief State Inspector offered for reward to provide information about the income of individuals and legal entities of the region from the automated information system “tax block”. The customers of such services were local private entrepreneurs who were interested in information about competitors and potential customers. The cost of information depended on the volume and data medium.

The SBU officers documented several facts of sales of personal information by the official.

The law enforcement officers detained the offender in Berdychiv while receiving payment from the another client under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.

During the searches at the offender’s office and residence, the SBU officers seized computers and storage devices with classified information, which he planned to sell.

The investigation is ongoing upon the fact of unauthorized dissemination and distribution of classified information, which is stored in the electronic computing machines (computers), automated systems, computer networks or information-carrying devices.

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainee and choosing the type of detention are being decided.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Zhytomyr region jointly with the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigations in Khmelnytskyi city under the procedural supervision of the Zhytomyr Region Prosecutor's Office.
