Local elections in Uzhhorod: SBU exposes and blocks voter bribery scheme (video)

In Zakarpattia region, the SBU exposed a voter bribery scheme in favor of a candidate for the post of Uzhhorod mayor.

Allegedly, a resident of Uzhhorod organized the scheme. The offender involved a chairman of an apartment building co-owners association in vote buying. The cost of each “vote” was UAH 500 (USD 15).

Upon the fact of voter bribe, the law enforcement detained the offender during the transfer of funds for bribery of several dozen voters. The offender was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The SBU is checking the available information on the existence of the so-called “grid” in favor of this candidate in other areas of the city.

The investigation is ongoing. Other persons involved in the scheme are being identified.

The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Zakarpattia region under the supervision of Zakarpattia Region Prosecutor's Office.
