Zakarpattia region: SBU exposes and blocks bribery of voters on the eve of local elections
In Transcarpathian region, the SBU officers exposed electoral fraud in favor of a candidate for the post of head of the united territorial community.
Allegedly, a group of people, among whom were previously convicted of grave offences individuals, organized the voter fraud scheme in favor of a candidate. To cut a deal, they demanded copies of passports from citizens. The cost of each “vote” was UAH 1,000 (USD 35).
Within the criminal proceedings initiated upon the fact of violation of referendum law, law enforcement officers detained three suspects on receiving a part of the funds (USD 600). For this, they guaranteed the candidate a sufficient amount of votes in the local elections.
The issue of detention of the suspects under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine is being settled.
The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Main National Police Department in Zakarpattia region under the procedural supervision of the Zakarpattia Region Prosecutor's Office.
