Ivan Bakanov: authorities need to work more systematically to improve information and cyber security
All authorities must work more systematically to improve the information and cyber security of our state. This was stated by the SBU Head Ivan Bakanov at the meeting with representatives of ministries and bodies, initiated by the SBU.
“No one has dealt with cybersecurity issues for years. Therefore, we need to change this approach. The real scale of the infiltration to state information resources is impressive. Attacks take place almost every day. We have conducted an extended examination. The conclusion is simple - we need to act immediately and systematically,” Ivan Bakanov stressed.
According to him, the vast majority of cyber threats come from Russia. “Russia deploys enormous forces to fight against Ukraine, especially in the field of information and cybersecurity,” the SBU Head added.
He emphasized that unauthorized access to information systems of ministries and bodies causes significant damage to the national security of Ukraine. “This is a call sign for all of us. We need to open up a new level of fighting against cyber attacks,” said Ivan Bakanov.
Officers of the SBU Cyber Department also added that over 70% of cyber attacks on public authorities come from Russia. According to the forecasts, in 2021 hacker attacks will target electronic document management systems (EDMS), e-mail and other tools for remote work and corporate networks. Cyber attacks can also endanger the security of critical infrastructure and strategic enterprises.
We recall that in 2020, the SBU neutralized 460 cyberattacks on public authorities and critical infrastructure. Also during this period, 2500 web resources that were used for criminal purposes by 20 hacker groups were blocked.
