SBU blocks illegal access to international telephone lines

SBU Main Department of Internal Security blocked the illicit route channel of international telephone traffic, involving law enforcement officers.

The SBU established that the organizers of the scheme, bypassing the Kyiv International Exchange Center, illegally processed traffic in Ukraine using IP telephony technology. Reportedly, current law enforcement officers, including the employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, are involved in the unlawful activities.

According to the intelligence, the attackers rented a premise in Kyiv region and installed telecommunication equipment with specialized software. The fraudsters also purchased vehicles, where they stored another part of the equipment. To cover up their unlawful activities, they changed the location of the vehicle every day.

During the searches, law enforcement officers seized computer equipment with specialized software, GSM gateways, SIM boxes, and almost 25,000 SIM cards of leading Ukrainian mobile operators. Furthermore, SBU officers found hardware network equipment, in particular routers, modems and servers and established all the attackers’ IP addresses of servers registered in several EU countries.

Additionally, the law enforcement seized accounting records, financial and economic and other documents proving the fraud and legalization of illegally obtained funds.

The suspects are being identified. The alleged use of the channel by IAF members of “D / LNR” terrorist organizations is also being checked.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out jointly with the investigators of the National Police in city of Kyiv under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No 4.
