SBU blocks criminal group on stealing personal data with malicious software
In Lviv region, the Security Service of Ukraine blocked the illegal activities of an organized group that carried out DDos attacks on information resources.
The SBU cybersecurity experts established that hackers developed and used malicious software to attack citizens' computers to obtain personal data. The hackers used closed channels on Telegram messenger system to systematically post information that was stolen from Internet users during unauthorized interference with computers and mobile devices.
During the searches of the suspects’ residences, the law enforcement officers seized computer equipment and malicious software.
The detainees were served notices of suspicion of unauthorized interference in the work of electronic computers, automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks and creation for the purpose of use, dissemination and distribution of harmful software (Part 2 of Art. 361, and Part 2 of Art. 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Investigation is ongoing.
The operation was conducted jointly with the officers of Cyber Police in Lviv region, under the supervision of Lviv Local Prosecutor's Office № 1.
