SSU and SBI expose deputy head of Lviv region’s district military administration who caused over UAH 25 mln losses to Ukraine’s budget

The SSU Military Counterintelligence and the State Bureau of Investigations have uncovered unlawful actions committed by a former head of one of the National Guard training centres. Currently, this person is the first deputy head of a district military administration in Lviv oblast.

In April 2022, as a commander of a National Guard military unit, the official purchased for state funds 72 RGS-50 fuel storage tanks at an artificially high cost.

The law enforcement identified that the military unit had bought the storage tanks for almost UAH 64.5 mln, while their market value was UAH 39.3 mln.

In this way, the suspect’s actions caused losses to Ukraine’s defence budget of over UAH 25 mln (USD 660,000).

According to the investigation, the official entered into this agreement despite the fact that several companies offered him more favourable delivery time and estimated value.

Based on the evidence, the district administration head has been notified of suspicion under Article 425.4 of the CCU (negligence of military service, committed under martial law).

The court is to decide on custody as a measure of restraint. The suspect is facing up to 8 years in prison.

The investigation is conducted under the procedural supervision of Lviv Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
