SSU and SBI detain prosecutor in Dnipro for extorting bribe to help suspect evade jail time

The SSU and the State Bureau of Investigations jointly with the Prosecutor General’s Office have exposed a prosecutor of the Left Bank District Prosecutor’s Office in Dnipro on corruption.

The official extorted USD 10,000 from a local resident whose son is a suspect in an investigation into fraud and forgery of documents, seals and stamps.

For the bribe, the prosecutor promised to change the qualification of the offence to a less serious one.

Further, the official was ready to close the criminal proceeding, in which he was the procedural supervisor.

The law enforcement detained the suspect ‘red-handed’ when he received the bribe.

He will be served a notice of suspicion under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official). The court is to choose a measure of restraint.

The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is facing up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
