SSU and National Police expose head of district territorial recruitment center and Territorial Defence brigade deputy commander in Zakarpattia on bribes from draft evaders
The SSU and the National Police have shut down another two mobilization evasion schemes in Zakarpattia region. As a result of the operations, the head of a district Territorial Recruitment Center and the deputy commander of a Territorial Defence brigade have been served notices of suspicion.
According to the National Police investigators, the two perpetrators acted separately but had similar schemes: for money they offered men to evade conscription using forged documents about ‘poor’ health.
To do this, they provided potential conscripts with fake medical reports from a Military Medical Commission about their ‘serious illnesses’.
Later, the evaders used the bogus documents to be written off the military register and could leave Ukraine.
The cost of ‘services’ started at from USD 4,000 per client.
Based on the evidence, the officials are suspected (in accordance with the crimes committed) under two Articles of the CCU:
- 368.3 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official);
- 369-2.3 (abuse of influence).
The investigation is ongoing. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zakarpattia region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
