SSU and National Police detain Uzhhorod City Council member who took bribes for mobilization deferral

The SSU and the National Police have exposed a member of Uzhhorod City Council on corruption. The deputy is in the management of the local Social Policy Department.

According to the investigation, the official extorted money from men applying for a deferral of conscription for family reasons.

In exchange for various amounts of bribes, he promised a ‘fast-track’ procedure to obtain certificates confirming they were caring for people with disabilities.

The law enforcement detained the suspect ‘red-handed’ when he was receiving a bribe.

The investigators will shortly notify the suspect of suspicion under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).

The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zakarpattia region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Uzhhorod District Prosecutor’s Office.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in line with the procedure defined by law and established by a relevant court’s verdict.
