SSU shuts down another 3 channels of draft evaders’ escape abroad

The SSU has blocked another three schemes used by Ukrainian men of military age to illegally leave Ukraine. As a result of investigations in several Ukraine’s regions, four organizers of illegal traffic have been detained.

The organizers have been continuously looking for citizens willing to flee abroad using counterfeit documents.

Such ‘services’ cost from USD 2,500 to 5,000, depending on the client’s place of residence and urgency of departure.

In Kyiv:

The SSU Counterintelligence exposed a local resident who offered potential conscripts to cross the border posing as ‘volunteers’.

Using his contacts in charitable foundations, he entered his ‘clients’ into the Shliakh information system as ‘drivers of vehicles with humanitarian cargo’.

A search of the suspect’s home revealed a police badge that had been considered lost. The offender used it for unlawful purposes.

In Lviv oblast:

A former lawyer who organized an illegal migration channel has been apprehended.

For money, he promised conscripts unimpeded departure from Ukraine using fake ‘certificates’ of members of an NGO transporting humanitarian aid.

In Rivne oblast:

The law enforcement exposed another two suspects. The group organized fictitious employment of ‘evaders’ as drivers of a local company engaged in international transportation to the EU states.

The organizers of the illicit channels have been served notices of suspicion under Article 332.3 of the CCU (unlawful transportation of persons across Ukraine’s state border).

Investigations are ongoing. The suspects are facing up to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operational and investigative activities were conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
