SSU shuts down another 5 channels of draft evaders’ escape abroad
The SSU has blocked 5 new schemes used by men of conscription age to illegally leave Ukraine. Organizers of the channels have been detained.
They offered people liable for military service to go abroad using fictitious medical certificates or by crossing the border outside checkpoints.
The offenders charged USD 6,000 to 9,000 for their ‘services’.
In Ternopil region:
A former head of a local military enlistment office was apprehended. The man sold counterfeit certificates of unfitness for military service.
Further, the draft evaders planned to use the fakes to travel abroad.
In Transcarpathia:
The law enforcement agencies exposed three residents who helped locals go to one of the EU states bypassing checkpoints, crossing through the ‘green border’.
The smugglers developed a plan, according to which they changed vehicles several times during one ‘trip’.
In addition, before leaving for their destination, all ‘clients’ were forced to take off their clothes and shoes to be checked for ‘wires’.
In Dnipropetrovsk region:
A resident of Kryvyi Rih was detained for offering evaders to travel to Moldova using fake certificates of ‘unfitness for military service due to health reasons’.
To implement the scheme, he involved accomplices from the military medical commission of one of Odesa military enlistment offices.
In Khmelnytskyi region:
The head of a local civil organization was served a notice of suspicion. For money, he offered fake disability certificates with subsequent military deregistration.
In Lviv region:
The law enforcement exposed three local residents on counterfeiting documents to evade mobilization for health reasons.
Investigations are ongoing to bring the suspects to justice under two Articles of the CCU:
- 332 (illegal transportation of persons across Ukraine’s state border);
- 369-2 (abuse of influence).
The suspects are facing up to 9 years in prison.
The SSU carried out the operational and investigative activities jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
