SSU shuts down 4 channels of illegal transportation of conscript-age men abroad
The SSU has dismantled several large-scale schemes of illegal transportation of draft-age men across the state border.
Some of the routes ran in the direction of the aggressor state and the temporarily occupied Crimea.
In Kyiv:
The SSU Cyber Department neutralized a criminal group that organized the so-called ‘green corridor’ for men of call-up age.
The group included serving employees of one of Kyiv military enlistment offices, lawyers and doctors.
For USD 12,000, they prepared a complete package of fictitious documents that allowed draft evaders to cross the state border of Ukraine without hindrance.
Due to the SSU’s prompt response, the scheme was blocked, and the key organizer was detained when handing over forged documents and receiving payment.
In Kharkiv region:
The SSU exposed a group that ‘helped’ conscripts leave Ukraine. They offered their ‘clients’ routes to the EU states through russia.
One of the ‘businessmen’ looked for ‘clients’, the other - transported them to one of the border villages in Kharkiv region, from where they were supposed to illegally enter the territory of russia.
They charged USD 500 from each draft evader.
However, the scheme never became operational – the SSU shut it down at the stage of preparation.
In Zaporizhzhia region:
The SSU disrupted another channel of illegal transportation of potential conscripts across the border. This time, they went to the temporarily occupied Crimea.
The organizer is a resident of Melitopol. In his own car, he took the evaders to the temporarily occupied city. Then he handed over the passengers to his accomplices, who further transported them to the annexed Crimea. From there, the ‘tourists’ went either to russia or to Georgia.
The price ranged from UAH 5,000 to 10,000 (USD 125 – 250), depending on age and number of people.
The SSU detained the organizer along with two passengers on their way to Melitopol.
In Chernihiv region:
The SSU detained two individuals involved in illegal transportation of draft-age men to belarus.
The cost of such an ‘escape ticket’ was UAH 100,000 (USD 2,500) per person.
For this amount, the group took conscripts across the border, bypassing the checkpoints.
The SSU detained the suspects near one of the border villages. During the search, the officers found:
- an AKM assault rifle with rounds for it;
- a Makarov pistol with rounds;
- UAH 100,000 in cash.
The investigations of all the described cases are underway to bring to justice organizers and participants of these unlawful schemes.
The operations were carried out by the SSU Offices in Kyiv and Kyiv region, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Chernihiv regions together with the State Border Guard Service under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
