SSU shuts down two draft evasion schemes organized by officials of military enlistment offices

The SSU Military Counterintelligence has blocked another two channels used by citizens of conscription age to illegally leave Ukraine.

This time, the unlawful activity was organized by current and former officials of military enlistment offices from two border regions.

For money, they offered men to evade mobilization using counterfeit documents and bypassing border checkpoints.

The ‘services’ cost up to USD 7,500, depending on the chosen draft evasion scheme.

In Ivano-Frankivsk region:

Based on the findings of the SSU Military Counterintelligence, the court has sentenced the former chief of unit of one of the local military enlistment offices.

The offender was selling fake certificates of a military medical commission on ‘fitness for service for health reasons’.

Later, the counterfeits were used to travel to a neighbouring European country.

The official also issued a bogus disability certificate to a local resident so that she could take her husband to the EU as an accompanying person.

In Chernivtsi region:

an official of one of the territorial military enlistment offices and two of his accomplices have been notified of suspicion. For their clients, they were developing hidden routes to illegally cross through the ‘green border’.

Based on the collected evidence, the organizers’ actions have been qualified under Article 332 of the CCU (illegal transportation of persons across Ukraine’s state border).

The activities were carried out jointly with the National Police and the State Border Guard Service under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
