SSU shuts down channel of smuggling cocaine from South American drug cartel
As a result of a special operation in Kyiv, the SSU shut down an international channel of illegal transportation of heavy drugs to Ukraine.
The drug trafficker was arrested for trying to sell 1 kg of cocaine. The value of the seized ‘goods’ is almost UAH 6 mln (USD 145,000).
The detainee is a local smuggler who worked closely with the South American drug cartel. Through his accomplices abroad, he tried to organize wholesale deliveries of cocaine to Ukraine.
The ‘route’ passed through one of the European countries, where the trafficker received the ‘product’ and then covertly transported it to Ukraine in his own car.
He planned to organize his own extensive network of dealers selling narcotics in Kyiv region. For this, he used personal connections, primarily in criminal circles.
Currently, SSU investigators are preparing a notice of suspicion. The court is to choose the type of detention.
The pre-trial investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region together with the National Police and under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
